January 13, 2015 - Five things you need to know about the new IDNYC card

1. The Card is available to ALL New York City residents.

Applicants will not be asked about their immigration status.  Applicants will need to establish  their identities and NYC residency.

2. The Card is free if you apply within the first year of implementation.

3. Benefits the card does NOT provide:

The IDNYC card does not provide immigration status, work authorization or permission to drive in New York City.  The card also does not authorize cardholders to purchase alcohol or tobacco products, receive public assistance benefits, or travel on an airplane.

4. You can apply for the card at various designated enrollment centers.

Generally, enrollment centers are located  at NY Public Libraries located in the five boroughs.

5. Benefits of the IDNYC card:

The IDNYC card will enable New Yorkers to access City services and grant admission to City buildings, such as schools. In addition, the card can be presented as proof of identification for interacting with the police and is an accepted form of identification for opening a banking account at select financial institutions.  You will also be able to use your IDNYC card as a library card. You can even use your IDNYC card to open a bank account at certain financial institutions. There is also a package of benefits including free memberships to 33 cultural institutions and discounts on prescription drugs, movie tickets, health and fitness clubs, New York City attractions, grocery store, and much more.
